Nathan's treatment went well this week. Tues, Wed and Thursday he received a drug called ARAC at the clinic. These visits were the quickest as he just needed to be accessed and then received the drug as an injection into his port, which they had ready and waiting for us. We gave Nathan the choice of staying accessed or having to be re-accessed each day and he chose the latter. Activity this week has been very low key as we know his counts are decreasing - so no school and no soccer.
We must have commented one too many times that aside from Nathan's situation, our family seems to have been on the healthy side as Carter has come down with something. Tuesday was the school's swim day at Lathey Pool. The temperature was in the 30's and the kids had a full day at the pool. When Carter arrived home he had a rash on his stomach so we weren't sure if he was having a reaction to the sunscreen used or the pool water. By supper time he was exhausted and put himself to bed at 6:30pm missing his ball game. The next morning he had a headache and slight temperature. After going back to bed he thought he felt well enough to go to school for the afternoon as he had a test and a dance presentation. So off he went. By 2pm I received a phone call from his teacher indicating Carter had fallen asleep in class and his temperature was increasing. Thursday he seemed fine with the exception of complaints of a headache, sore throat, tiredness and a rash on his back and front. My doctor thought it was a virus and to wait to see if it cleared up. By Friday his neck glands were swollen so I took him into the medi clinic. Dr Haver examined Carter and indicated ears, throat and nose were clear and the gland swollen was the lymphnocytic gland so thought either he had a virus of some sort or possibility of Mono. So I took Carter today for blood work. This was the first time he gave blood and he asked Nathan to come with him. The two played DS's during the blood test and no thought was given to the needle. Results should be in by Monday. Carter was feeling better today but still isn't up to pare. His appetite has really decreased and is still tired but at least the headache has subsided.
We have no plans for Father's Day other than to have a relaxing day at home. We hope everyone has a good day tomorrow.
