Today went as well as we could have expected at the Cancer Center. Nathan was very antsy when I was putting the Emla cream on his legs at home this morning. He knows that wherever he gets the cream is where he gets a needle later and he definitely was NOT looking forward to more pokes in the leg. We got to the Cancer Center around 9am and it took well over an hour for them to get his chemotherapy drugs ready. We were finally called into the room just before 10:30 to say that they were ready for Nathan. This time we made sure that I took the bandaids off of Nathan's legs. I worked deliberately at the bandaids while Shelley peppered him with questions about his DS game to distract him. Nathan was good and was able to prepare himself for the needles and so when the nurses injected him he didn't even cry. That stoicism did not last too long however as when they got to the end of the injection it really did start to hurt and then he did start to cry. The nurses were almost done though when it started to hurt and so we were able to get the tears stopped up really quickly. Nathan didn't even make a fuss when we told him that he had to walk back to the playroom - all in all that was as good as we could have expected.
After an hour of observation at the Cancer Center we were free to go and we got home shortly before noon. After talking to the nurses today Shelley and Nathan decided that Nathan would be able to school this afternoon. Nathan was much more independent at school today which was nice for Shelley. And Carter gets a real big kick about seeing his Mom at school during the day - Shelley's enjoying some of that while she can. It serves as a great distraction. And speaking of distractions, I have added some pictures to Nathan's photo gallery.
This week is a busy week with four days at the clinic but Tuesday is an off day - whatever shall we do with all that spare time??
