Thursday Carter stayed home from school again as he wasn't feeling well in the morning but the other two boys seemed to be doing fine. They had a pretty good day at home and we had a busy evening. They did all go to bed easily which is nice not having to fight, but there were a few too many times up in the night for a good sleep for Shelley and I.
Friday, Shelley took the boys over to her parents place in the morning so that we could try to get some stuff done around the house. We were pretty successful at that and then just after lunch we had to pick up Nathan to take him to the hospital. Carter also came with us as he wanted to know what was going on today. For once our Cancer center nurses were wrong as they told Shelley that all we had to do was go to General Admitting. Shelley even asked twice more to make sure that we didn't have to go to Emergency Admitting but nurse Jan stated again that it was General Admitting we had to go to at 1:30. Well when we got to RUH, General Admitting was closed and we had to go down to Emergency - I guess they aren't perfect after all. Emergency sure is slow, must be something about being understaffed as Carter and I stood there for about 10 minutes before someone came to help us. Then we were shuffled off to another station where we had to wait while that nurse figured out what we were doing there. Finally we were told to up to the ward and Carter and I went and got Shelley and Nathan and upstairs we went.
On the ward we had a couple of nurses that we've had a few times before and they are really good so it was nice to see them. Nurse Pat asked Carter if he had his cream on for the pokes and you should have seen the look on Carter's face - he was more than a little worried but she was just teasing him. She then brought the boys in a nice Easter toy to make up for it. It took us a few minutes to talk Nathan into getting ready for his needles. Again, he didn't think that he should get them as they would hurt. Then when nurse Wendy came to give it, they had only sent up one needle that was full. We politely asked if they could put into two needles so that they were not as full and would not be as painful. Then Nathan asked if they could do both at the same time so both nurses came back and were ready. Then he changed his mind back to one at a time and again the nurses obliged us - they were being very patient with Nathan's changing whims. It worked though, because when he finally got his needles he didn't make a peep. He winced a little, but did not cry out and both nurses were very impressed.
Nathan knew what to do next since he had those nurses going for him... he ordered up a couple of popsicles, one for him and one for his brother. Because we still had to be observed for an hour we went to the playroom to pass the time. We played air hockey, fooseball, spoons and monkey in the middle and when nurse Wendy came to check Nathan so we could leave, he was not ready to be done playing. We found it odd that when he is admitted that he is not allowed in the playroom due to a depressed immune system, but when we are not admitted there he is good enough to play....
Justin has now developed a cough like Carter, but Nathan is still holding it off. They all went to bed OK tonight, Justin had a little trouble settling down but hopefully there are no, or at least very few, late night visits.
