Wow, another 3 days have passed. Life has been rather hectic with the move but at least today we can say we know where all the unpacked boxes are as with the assistance of some friends we rearranged the remaining boxes. It is amazing what one acquires over a 10 year period, 3 kids later.
Nathan had treatment on Friday. The children's section was full. After a 10 day break Nathan pushed the limits before allowing the nurse to access him. He becomes such a character when he enters the examining room. Dr Mpofu examined him this time. And as usual Nathan doesn't take him seriously. It wasn't until I left the room to get him a drink that he took Dr Mpofu serious enough to complete the examination. Nathan's counts came back good so it was a long wait until his medications were ready. We arrived at 9am and it was 12:30 before the medications were administered. We were the last to leave which is starting to become quite common. Nathan happily past the time playing games and playing with the various children in the play area. The end of our visit to the clinic didn't go so well, as the nurse wouldn't wait for Nathan to count with her and just proceeded to de-access him. Needless to say there was much crying and unfortunately name calling. Nathan was quickly told that was inappropriate no matter how mad he was at the nurse. Although the nurses see Nathan often, obviously they too need reminding on what Nathan likes. Counting is how he controls the situation and prepares himself for what is about to happen, so in our opinion, you let him count. It is his body and he has every right to let them know what works for him and what doesn't.
Nathan now has a 16 day break as he doesn't need to return to the clinic until May 11. He will start a new phase that day but before starting will go for an Echo gram. It will be a full day as after this is done, he will receive methotrexate through a spinal, vincristin and a new drug called doxorubicin. From what I have heard, this is the red drug that results in those children still with hair left, losing it. Nathan's hair has started growing again so looks like a nice brush cut. So will see what affect it will have on Nathan.
Saturday and Sunday were spent at various children activities as it is that time of year when everything starts again. Carter had his first soccer practise Saturday morning so we all attended. It was a little chilly but no wind so the kids enjoyed playing at the park while Carter practised. Arron was able to move the remainder of the larger out door items(i.e.play structure) with the assistance of some friends so thank you for your help. Carter had catechism class for 1st communion and confirmation this morning, which he will be making at the end of May. There is also a parent class at the same time so Arron and I were both able to attend as Justin and Nathan had a play date with Johnathan and Ella. The boys had fun this afternoon with the assistance of a couple of magnetic sweepers which they used to explore the yard in search of nails, screws, staples etc. and then enjoyed a visit from the Berg children. We had a very relaxing evening, thanks to the invitation of the Rohachuk's who invited us for supper. It was great to see them again.
We are grateful that Nathan has been handling treatment as well as he has. It has allowed for some normalcy. We took the kids to McDonald's yesterday and ate at the restaurant for the first time in 6 months. (That being said I think I made them wash their hands about 4 times !) Tomorrow we will see how Nathan is in determining whether he can attend school. When I mentioned it tonight he was excited so we will see what the morning brings. We are looking forward to some normal activity over the next two weeks and in getting our house organized.
