IC Day 21 Update

Sunday was a good day for most of the day. All the boys played well together and Shelley and I got to have a small afternoon siesta when Justin went down and the other two were watching a movie. It was kind of funny today as I sent the boys downstairs to play while Shelley was sleeping. Carter got to use his real hockey stick and practice his wrist shots and then Nathan wanted to put on the street hockey pads and stand in net for Carter to shoot at. Seemed like a great idea to me. Those two had quite a bit of fun doing that and then little brother "me too" wanted in on the action. The older boys tolerated him well. When they came back upstairs Carter told Nathan "Thanks for playing goalie" and Nathan said "thanks for not hurting me"... I guess Carter can still work on those wrist shots.

Nathan worked on walking up and down the stairs on his own this weekend, and has made good progress. He was quite proud that he was able to do it on his own today.

Another day of IV treatments down and two left to go. It's nice to see the pile of bags dwindling. Nathan is tolerating having to do the IV a few times a day but he is having trouble sitting there for the full hour. Sometimes he'll get up to go do something with a brother and, like a dog on a chain, gets the reminder that he's still hooked up. Shelley and Nathan have gotten into calling his IV pole Frank. So if he has to go somewhere while hooked up, like the washroom, he tells Frank to come with him. Frank usually follows pretty good but Nathan can go faster than Frank and we have to rein him in.

Tomorrow is another treatment day but it is not quite as big as the last treatment days. All he has tomorrow is the Vinchristine again and another Methotrexate which is done via lumbar puncture. The folks at the Cancer Center have told us that they have quite a few radiation patients right now and those treatments take up the anaesthesiologists so our appointment isn't until the afternoon. It was kind of nice going early before, you could actually get parking, and you'd be done for the day earlier, but c'est la vie, it will get done all the same.
