IC Day 26 Update

Nathan was a sharp dressed man today! As we were getting dressed to go to the Cancer Center Nathan spied his ties in his closet so we went with a button up shirt with a nice tie. We had another interesting day at the Cancer Center today. We got part way there when Nathan had to go pee and we had to turn around and go home for Nathan to use our bathroom. We got to the Clinic a little later than planned but they were ready for us when we got there. Nathan had his blood drawn and then we went to the play room to wait. It was nice today as Nathan's new friend, Michael, was there getting a blood test as well. Nathan and Michael played for over an hour together as it took a long time for the results to come back today. Usually when the results come the nurse lets us know what the results were and whether Nathan requires any blood products, however when the results finally came back today the nurse came to tell us that Dr Ali wanted to discuss them with us. Anything that doesn't go as it usually does is usually a cause for concern and this was no different for us - we were concerned why Dr Ali wanted to see us as he usually does not on blood test days. It turned out that he just wanted us to know that Nathan's counts were really, really low. His total white blood cell count was .83 and his Neutrophils were not measurable. The good news was that his platelets were better, up to 128 and his hemoglobin was unchanged at 81 so no transfusions today. Dr Ali needed to remind us that we needed to keep Nathan away from the public this weekend and to keep him dry and warm. Additionally, he reminded us that in order for treatment to continue on Monday his Neutrophil count has to be up to .75 and his platelets have to be above 75. It doesn't look good to have the Neutrophils meet that number but we are still to go in early on Monday for another blood test to see if we are continuing that day or not. After that, Nathan got de-accessed and we were allowed to go home.

Nathan fell asleep on the way home and slept on the couch for over an hour. I think that was just to make up for the fact that he was up at 5:30 this morning. We had a good afternoon and evening. Nathan did not eat a whole lot for supper other than celery with Cheez Whiz but the popcorn snack this evening went down fairly fast.
