IC Day 22 Update

Whoops! So not sure if this is still Day 22 or an extended Day 21 - we'll find that out tomorrow. What I am sure of is that Nathan slept in this morning which was unusual. Then Nathan woke up asking for a drink of milk, which again was unusual so we gave it to him. And he was ready to eat, so we gave him an Eggo AND THEN WE REMEMBERED that he was supposed to be fasting before his procedure today. Big whoops! We phoned the Cancer Center to see what would happen and they told us we were cancelled for today. So we will try Day 22 again tomorrow. We are going to look at it as the glass is half full. Tomorrow is his last day for his Vancomycin and the last day for his port to be accessed so instead of going in today for his procedure and then back again tomorrow just to get de-accessed we will go in tomorrow and get everything done on one trip - hopefully. Now as long as this doesn't throw off the rest of his protocol. We are hoping that since this was a quiet week, and these aren't chemo meds that hammer his blood counts we should be back on track for the start of another big round next Monday.

We are still doing well with the Vancomycin, I don't know if it has gotten any easier as everything takes us about the same amount of time but at least we are more comfortable with it. We should be as we have 21 down and 3 left to go.

Today was a very trying day. I'm not sure if Nathan had too much sleep but he was in a combative mood today and combat we did. Tired parents and an unruly child do not make for good bed fellows but we managed to get through the day... almost. Justin is still screaming for Mommy or Daddy, Nathan is still yelling for Mom and Carter is just laying awake listening to it all... ... OK I'm back from sitting with Justin but he still isn't sleeping and Shelley is now laying down with her boys, first one then the other.

Our other significant event of today is that Nathan has really started shedding his hair. He had been losing it over the past couple of weeks but it wasn't very fast or very much. Over the past two days it has been like a long haired cat in the spring - shedding everywhere. It is even annoying Nathan as it gets into his mouth and eyes and makes his neck and back itchy. Because of that we have talked Nathan into finally getting his hair cut. He is still deciding on the length: he either wants it short like mine (which isn't overly short); or we'll go with an Uncle Darrell haircut (which is shaved bald). Cousin Johnathan just shaved his head like his Dad so Nathan might be more comfortable going that route now. We'll find out on Thursday just how short he's going to go (and if his Dad has to go as short as Nathan).
